Handgemacht diese Woche / Handmade this week

This week has been flying past me so I could not find the time to post anything. Which is a pity as I enjoy sitting down in the evenings and quickly posting something I managed to do. Well, now I can show you some more photos. ;-) I am a bit behind on one project but I don't mind that so much as I have started Christmas production and a charity project. The sock that you can see is part 2/4 of my Christmas sock project and this one is finished already. It is too dark to take photos now. On the second photo you can see a jacket I am sewing for my daughter's ballet class as she is cold so often. Unfortunately my daughter's year is dressed in white, a colour I don't like very much. We bought some pumpkins for halloween and turned them into faces. I made a soup from the insides: Fry chopped onions and garlic in oil, add 3 potatoes, 4 carrots and the inside of the pumpkin, add stock cube, cook until everything is soft, turn it into puree, add salt and pepper. I also put some cottage cheese into my soup and liked it so much. Yummy.

Wochen-Ufo [44]: Socken / Socks

Last night I felt the need to knit socks again - and of course Christmas is approaching ... So I looked for a nice pattern, took a skein of Tausendschön yarn and off I went. Let's see if I can finish this week.

Weihnachten 1 von 4 / Christmas 1 of 4

Every year I give away handknitted socks to the parent generation. They all really like those socks and I know that they are wearing them. This is why I enjoy knitting them so much. A part from that it is a good reason to subcribe to the annual specials by Tausendschön ;-). I have finished the first pair of the Christmas socks this week - no. 2 has just been started. I can say: I am on a good road.

Walking 43

Today was such a beautiful sunny and mild day, I had to go outside and walk. In the late afternoon I cycled into town with my son. Very enjoyable. The only thing missing is swimming ;-)

Doppel-RUMS 43/15 / Double RUMS 43/15

Finally I managed to take photos of my latest jumper. It is a testknit for Isabell Krämer made from Finkhof merino yarn. I am very enthusiastic about the pattern and the lovely yarn. I changed the test a little adding the chevron pattern on the sleeves. Unfortunately it is too mild to wear the jumper just yet. And I made myself a beanie. My first one. I am so pleased with it I believe I will make at least one more for walking.

Beanie Love

My body is currently giving me some time outside work ;-) - i.e. I am ill. As I am so good at ignoring being ill my body was kind enough to tell me that it was time I took some time to recover. What I like about this is: as soon as you can sit upright you can sew.

I have realised that my large stock of fabric and yarn leads to stress as I have the feeling I am not quick enough. It is also frustrating not to finish the projects. If I buy new fabric or yarn despite all this it is getting worse and turning into a vicious circle. So I decided to sew away all the fabric in my set of drawers.

I have just discovered how great beanies with two sides are and that children's sizes are perfect for using up leftovers. I am showing the first results today. As my children - surprisingly - have one head only I will donate beanies for the good cause.

Wendemützen / Beanies with two sides

Today I managed to use some of my leftovers to make beanies. I love that they are 2 in 1. They are for two of my children. I enjoyed making them very much and this is a must project as I have promised myself not to buy new fabric before I haven't used up everything I own. I guess there will be more beanies.

Teststrick Almost there / Testknit Almost there

My jumper has one sleeve already and the second has been started. I hope that I can wear it soon as I like it so much. The chevron pattern on the sleeve is an addition by me.

Walking 42

An diesem ganz besonderen Herbsttag. Wie war's bei euch?

After an unsteady night caused by my ill daughter ("Mummy, Mummy, I am going to vomit now.") I didn't trust my eyes when I woke up this morning. I saw snow, I closed my eyes and opened them again and saw snow. Okay mixed in among the rain but still snow. I thought things over quickly - had I slept just a little too long ... No, someone would have woken me. I planned to go walking this morning but waited quite some time until the fun was getting less. I made loads of photos today and I feel an urge to leave quite a few here. On this very special autumn day. How was the weather in your place?

Beanie for a teenie

The first fabric has been turned into my first beanie. My son chose the fabric and the decoration himself. I used the pattern provided by Hamburger Liebe. I am so happy that I found this way of using up leftovers in a good way. I think I will make more of these. Thank you for the tutorial, Hamburger Liebe.

Wie wär's mal wieder mit nähen? / How about sewing?

For some time now I can also call sewing my hobby. It has a totally different quality to me than knitting and is a great change to knitting. A part from that I find the thought that my house won't collapse while I am sewing something quite soothing. In the next days I would like to sew the above pile of fabric.

Gegen den Projektinfarkt / Against project attack

I have used an illness to knit. I am very happy with the result from this testknit so far. I will begin the sleeves next week.

Stricken gegen den Projektinfarkt / Knitting to prevent the project attack

Having written about the many projects on my needles and my fear that it would all get out of hand I can say that I can see things might take a positive turn. Last night I was at my regular knitting meeting and managed to knit quite a lot so that I could bind off my Pimpelliese this morning. I am very satisfied with the result and am looking forward to wearing this scarf. When I have finished my current projects I am going to take out the old ones and finish them or rib them out.

Walking 41

I have neglecting walking for too long really, which was caused by my body which couldn't decide whether to fall ill. It can be the my brain was interfering in the matter. Anyway, today my desk felt the wrong place to be, so I went out into the wet autumn. I can only say this: It was great.

Schokotuch / Chocolate scarf

After my thoughtful post yesterday which made me think more - but more on this on another occasion - I am showing you a freshly washed scarf that will go into my charity box. I love Zauberball yarn but have so many colourful things in my wardrobe that I only knit this one to give it away. It has started to get colder outside.

Projektinfarkt / Project attack

While working for my paid job today marking class tests like I was doing piece work I started thinking if I am as stressed out with my knitting as I am at times at work. I counted what is currently on my needles: test knit Almost there for Isabell Krämer, a pair of socks, Janukke's mystery KAL and the favourite pattern KAL in the Tausendschön group. A part from that I must have two more WIPs which are older.

I looked up the analogy to working life on the internet and read that many projects in working life lead to many meetings which are badly prepared so that they are run inefficiently. For knitting this means that I can have too many projects, yes, but mostly I don't have team meetings. However of course when testknitting you have appointments such as deadlines to keep or you are behind everyone in the group of test knitters. Thus you feel overburdened and frustrated - just like at work.

What is the solution for the working world? The important thing is to set priorities. At work, depending on your position in the company, this is mostly done for you as this is a management task. It has to be decided which projects should be carried out and in which order - these decisions are of a strategic nature in business. In knitting you can set priorities. This might mean that you have to let go of a project. This might be difficult but you don't lose your income. Nevertheless you have invested energy and money in your project already. I find the thought comforting that your project can wait or that the yarn can be used for another project later on. So, it is easy for the past-time knitter really.

The magic words of the working world are decisions and prevention. From my point of view this means the following for knitting: a) sometimes you have to stop working on a project, because you simply cannot do everything, b) learn to say no and c) plan foreseeable events (i.e. birthdays, Christmas).

What does that mean for me? Will I be a victim of project attack? First of all this means that I won't start another project. I was lucky today that the deadline for a testknit that I am desperate to take part in was postponed so I could sign up. The above mentioned and shown projects are next on my to-do list, in an order that I like. For my hobby it is important to me that I can work according to my liking - this is a great difference to my job in which there are things I have to do but I don't like them and this is no fun.

I found help to structure my thoughts on this German website: Überfrachtung (like: overload).

Pimpelliese

The cast-on of this scarf was posted here. In the meantime have used up nearly half of the yarn. I simply love the colours as they are such a great combination. My needles are really full and would work them really hard if I did not have this marking to do. Can you hear me sigh?

Mystery KAL 1

On Saturday morning the first Clue of the Mystery KAL was published so there was a lot going on in Janukke's knitting group on ravelry. As I have knitted the scarf as a secret testknit in spring I wanted to knit a new variant. This is why I chose to knit a mohair-silk blend (cf. post). For me a scarf by Janukke is always special (especially beautiful) because Jana has such brilliant ideas. I really like the pattern very much. With my yarn it turns out completely different, you can the the wholes much clearer. I think it's gorgeous. So I am showing you the first clue from my testknit in comparison.

I must take part in Maschenfein's blog with my new project this month. I am going to take part in a mystery KAL that does not lose its fun despite having been part of the secret testknit of the shawl. Thus I can be quite brave concerning my choice of yarn, well, I believe so. I have been wanting to knit mohair in a gradient and this beautiful light blue. And so the KAL and my plans are a perfect match - and I got my pocketmoney today! If you would like to join in - and it's really worth it, the shawl is very, very special - have a look here: Janukke or ravelry.

Next post: Mystery KAL 1
