Today we went hiking which I thought is a good day to write something about hiking with kids. I would like to focus on the routes we choose. They should generally be suitable for children you are taking with you, but I believe this is clear. It happens more often than I like that the distance and route is okay but somehow the children keep complaining. This is why we look out for routes which offer some distraction to kids like rocks, walls, hiding places, caves, something to climb onto, water as children don't really appreciate just walking. But climbing rocks, tress or walls is gret fun. We often play games such as hide and seek or running away and catching each other. If this does not work out we act out stories which motivate our kids to keep on walking (driving cars or acting films). And if nothing else works we take out our chocolate supply. When we climbed Cader Idris in Wales we needed 300g of chocolate for three kids and around 700m in height. Even if our kids complain they really enjoy being outside. I am showing you some photos of great routes.
