Neue Socken / New socks

Gerade in der Hitzeperiode ist es wichtig neue Stricksocken zu haben. Dieses hübsche Paar ist schon vor einer Weile fertig geworden, aber so oft hatte ich sie noch nicht an. Ich liebe Stricksocken, allerdings ist meine Schublade nun wirklich voll. Da muss ich mir etwas einfallen lassen. Gerade eben ist ein Tuch fertig geworden und ein neues auf den Nadeln, das ist schon mal ein guter Weg ;-)

It is most important to finish handknitted socks during a heat wave. This lovely pair has been finished for a while but I have not worn them a lot so far. I love handknitted socks but now my sockdrawer must officially be declared full. I have to think of something. I have just finished a scarf and am knitting another one. This seems to be the way to go ;-)

Ein schöner Sonntag / A great Sunday

Heute versuche ich ein bisschen langsamer zu machen und mich auszuruhen, denn auch die kurze nächste Woche hat es in sich. Bei dem schönen Wetter habe ich mich mal im Garten umgesehen, da wächst doch so einiges schön vor sich hin. Ein bisschen habe ich mich mit Urlaubsplanung beschäftigt. Dann habe ich eine Handyhülle genäht und gleich möchte ich mich noch ein Stündchen in die Sonne setzen, bevor ich alles für morgen fertig mache. Natürlich habe ich mich auch dieses Wochenende um ein paar blöde Dinge von meiner Liste gedrückt, aber manchmal muss frau einfach prokastinieren ...

Today I am trying to slow down a little and take some time to recover as the next week will be short but busy (in the German state I live in there is a bank holiday on  Thursday followed by a day off school on Friday). The sunny weather made me go into the garden to check on the plants and flowers. Moreover I looked at some holiday options. Then I sewed a mobile phone case and now I am planning to sit in the sun for an hour, before I want to get everything ready for tomorrow. I managed to get around a few things of my to do-list this weekend but sometimes you just need to procastinate ...

Was ich gerade stricke / What I am knitting at the moment

Nachdem ich so viele Fotos aus Rumänien gezeigt habe, möchte ich mich mal wieder dem Selbstgemachten widmen (selbstgemacht waren die Fotos allerdings auch ;-) ). Wahrscheinlich kennt ihr das Phänomen: Es steht eine Reise an und keines eurer Strickprojekte erscheint euch für unterwegs geeignet. Es ist zu kompliziert oder schon zu weit fortgeschritten ... Also habe ich für die Reise extra ein neues Tuch angefangen. Ein paar Tage vorher hatte ich angefangen, um sicher zu gehen, dass es auch funktionieren wird. Die Anleitung habe ich schon ziemlich lange und nun war endlich die Zeit gekommen, sie zu stricken. Zwei der Garne hatte ich Zuhause, das dritte habe ich hinzu gekauft. Erst war ich skeptisch, doch mit allen drei Farben gefällt es mir ganz gut.

Having shown so many photos from Romania I would like to come back to the things I make myself (I actually made the photos myself ;-)). I guess you know the phenomenon: You are about to travel and realise that none of the projects you are working on is suitable for travelling. It is too complicated or to advanced to take along ... So I started a shawl to knit on this trip. A few days earlier to make sure it would work out. I have had the pattern for quite a while and now the time had come to use it. I had two yarns at home and bought the third one. I was not sure at first but now I like it with all three colours.

Blick zurück: Donnerstag / Looking back: Thursday

Am Donnerstag stand ein Ausflug nach Sinaia an, um Peles Palace anzusehen, der ganz wunderbar von innen gestaltet ist. Die Schülerinnen und Schüler waren begeistert. Ich wäre auch ganz gerne mit der Gondel auf die Berge gefahren, was im Nachhinein super wäre, da die Stadt an sich mir nicht so gut gefallen hat.

On Thursday we made a excursion to Sinaia to see Peles Palace which is so beautiful. The students loved it very much. I would have liked to go up to the mountains which would have been the best option as I did not like the town as such very much.

Blick zurück: Mittwoch / Looking back: Wednesday

Am Mittwoch hatten unsere Schüler/innen das Vergnügen rumänische Gastfamilien zu besuchen, d.h. rumänische Schüler/innen haben bulgarische und deutsche Schüler/innen zu sich nach Hause eingeladen. Wenn das mit der Unterbringung in Gastfamilien nicht klappt, ist das eine gute Alternative. Es war jedenfalls wieder einer der beliebtesten Programmpunkte. Da meine Kollegin und ich nicht eingeladen waren, haben wir an diesem Tag alleine im Hotel zu Abend gegessen. Deshalb zeige ich heute Fotos vom Essen. Es war immer sehr lecker und sehr reichhaltig.

On Wednesday our students were invited to spend the afternoon and evening in Romanian host families, i.e. Romanian students took Bulgarian and German students home with them. If you cannot organise a stay with host families this is a great alternative. Again it was one of the most popular things we did. As my colleague and I had not been invited to a family we ate on own at the hotel that evening. So I am showing some photos of the food we were given. It was very tasty and there was plenty of food.

Am Dienstag letzter Woche habe ich bei strahlendem Sonnenschein das Parlamentsgebäude in Bukarest besucht. Die Größe dieses sozialistischen Prunkbaus ist beachtlich, alleine das Büro von Ceaucescu ist 400qm  groß. Dazu sag ich mal nichts, auch nicht zu der Tatsache, dass dafür ein ganzer Stadtteil platt gemacht wurde. Zum Vergleich zeige ich mal andere Häuser, die mir so aufgefallen sind.

Last week on Tuesday I visited the Parliament building in Bucharest in glorious sunshine. The sheer size of this buildung is remarkable, Ceaucescu's office is 400sqm large. I won't comment, neither on the fact that to build this a complete part of town was teared down. I am showing you other houses that I found interested to compare.

Blick zurück: Montag / Looking back: Monday

Da sich ja irgendwie alles gegen mich und das Bloggen verschworen hat, hoffe ich, dass ich in dieser Woche mal wieder etwas aufholen kann. Letzte Woche war ich in Bukarest unterwegs und dachte mir, dass ich ja jeden Tag dieser Woche zurückreisen könnte, um zu erzählen, was wir dort gemacht haben. Gereist bin ich mit einer Gruppe Schülerinnen und Schüler meiner Schule sowie einer Kollegin, um an einem Projekttreffen teilzunehmen. Das Projekt heißt "Becoming a multicultural European" und wird von der EU gefördert. Unser Hotel hatte eine Dachterasse im 6. Stock, von der aus man wunderbar über Bukarest blicken konnte. Und das Wetter war so toll - wir hatten eine richtige Sommerwoche erwischt.

 As somehow the universe is against me blogging in the past months I have decided to try and write more. I spent last week in Bucharest and my idea is to take myself back to this experience each day. I travelled with a group of pupils and a colleague to take part in a project meeting. The project is called "Becoming a multicultural European" and is funded by the EU. Our hotel had a patio on the 6th floor with a great view over Bucharest. And the weather was great - it felt just like summer.
